New Moon in Virgo
September 17 @ 3:59 A M | P S T
Discreet, Precise, Work-oriented
The Martyr | The Server | The Analyst
This new moon finds itself at 25* Virgo, an earth sign most closely associated with health, healing, and harvest. Virgo is the last summer sign before we move into the fall signs (Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius) so it represents a time to reap what we have sown since late February when the sun was in Pisces, the opposite of Virgo. That was around the same time that the virus was truly spreading globally and we were all confused with an influx of information and misinformation creating a somewhat paralyzing fear.
Now that we have traversed many highs and lows of this pandemic, this Virgo new moon is here to lay out a practical plan to move forward, to strive for a streamlined approach, while simultaneously relaxing any rigid expectations of what a perfect outcome looks like to you. It is important to do the final step as to avoid any feelings of shame which is a common feeling for Virgo as it deals directly with the ideals of being whole, pure, true as embodied in its symbol of the pure virgin/maiden containing all of the universe’s potential for life. This is a heavy burden, but also one that can be transmuted into practices of health (exercise), healing (self-care), and harvest (nourishing food).
Virgo wants to create, to share, to give so now is the perfect time to use your hands. It is no surprise that some of the most prolific writers have their sun or moon in Virgo: Roald Dahl (sun), Agatha Christie (sun), Jack Kerouack (moon), and many more. Therefore, while it is always a good ritual to write down your intentions for every new moon, I highly recommend doing so for this Virgo New Moon. There is magic in paper and pen, wield it.
Crystals to Guide Your Way
For this new moon in Virgo, I recommend Agate, but specifically Moss Agate as it has more earth energy. Agate is interesting in that it is created from bands of microscopic crystals, forming an incredibly stable stone with many layers creating a contrasting surface which can help the viewer to release any regrets or self-criticism and guide you down a path of self-acceptance.
Judy Hall recommends to, “keep a tumbled agate in your pocket. Whenever you feel unsure, confused, or off balance in any way, rub the crystal gently between your forefinger and thumb, following the rings of the stone. Agate can also be worn as a pendant to keep your energy field stable at all times.” While you do this use Hall’s reflection to amplify the agate’s energy: “Supported, secure. The world turns on its axis. Gravity holds.” May this stone help you to stay steadfast in your passions and your skill.
Use any of the four elements to keep your crystals charged for maximum power:
Fire: crystals sit outside in sunlight or near a safe and contained source of fire like a candle, wood fireplace, or camp fire.
Earth: bury crystals in earth, soil, or dirt. Wrap crystals in leaves or rest on a bed of flower petals.
Air: burn incense and keep crystals near the smoke
Water: Let soak in creek, stream, river, ocean, or water from home (not all crystals do well in water so research first). Let crystals sit outside in moonlight (yes, new moon light can still charge crystals!)
