My sister and I have been debating for YEARS about this trick a soccer mom told us many moons ago. It was a trick to keep you from crying while chopping onions.
The debate was whether the match had to be lit or not. My theory was that the smoke interfered with whatever the onion was doing. An unlit match couldn’t possibly do anything!
But she was right dammit.
I don’t know why we never googled it on the spot to end the debate.
Here’s how it works.
The red end (unlit) absorbs the sulfuric compounds before it reaches your eyes.
The end. Case closed.
